Sacrifice, diets, research, mental and physical preparation and so many hours on the water

Sailing is not just some idyllic pastime on clear water, basking in the sunshine and a pleasant breeze. Least of all for them, the Pros, sailors who have secured their place in Marseille and who have dedicated years of their life to sacrifice, diets, research, mental and physical preparation and so many hours on the water, in situations that are at times anything but idyllic and that have led them many times to ask themselves: “...why bother?”

Dedicating one's life to achieving a dream is a precious value at the heart of any sport, one that must be passed on to the next generations, along with the true meaning of “effort, commitment, teamwork” (even in individual sports), all to reach a goal. A goal that the athletes of the Italian Sailing Federation's team, of which SLAM is a technical partner, will strive to achieve.

Every athlete’s most important week is here. For some that week will be painted gold, silver or bronze. For others those seven days will mean just burning disappointment. Such is sport.

Forza Azzurri! Make our dreams come true!

Starting on 28th July while flying the flag for all those water sports athletes and enthusiasts, SLAM will be cheering on and dreaming alongside the young sailors of the "Windsurfing" discipline – the iQFoil class, at centre stage for the first after the last RSX class appearance in Tokyo: representing Italy will be Marta Maggetti and Nicolò Renna, who could be striving for a medal on 2nd August.

The same starting day (28/7) will see Jana Germani-Giorgia Bertuzzi on the 49er FX "Skiff", with the final Medal race on 1st August.

On 1st August the individual "Dinghy" (Ilca 6 Fe Ilca 7M) will kick off, with the final taking place on 6th August: Chiara Benini Floriani and Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini will be racing for Italy.

On 2nd August the spotlight will shine on the first trials of the "Mixed Dinghy" 470 class with Elena Berta and Bruno Festo, with the Medal race to be held on 7th August at the same time as the Mixed Multihull Nacra 17, which will begin its flights a day later, on 3rd August. After their triumph in Tokyo, Italy will be cheering on the Tita-Banti duo, our very own SLAM ambassadors.

Last to set sail in Marseille will be the Formula Kites, also foiling and for the first time admitted among the crown jewels of the sailing classes; their kick-off will be on 4th August, with the final on 8th August: between flying the colours of Italy will be Maggie Eillen Pescetto and Riccardo Pianosi.
