A 33 ans, Sébastien Simon est une figure montante de la course au large française et il prépare son retour dans le Vendée Globe avec résilience et détermination. Après avoir été contraint à l’abandon au large des côtes sud-africaines en 2020, suite à une avarie alors qu’il était en quatrième position, Sébastien a transformé cet échec en leçon de persévérance. Lors de la dernière Transat, il a souffert d’une fracture des cervicales.
"Après l’accident, j’ai passé trois mois sans pouvoir bouger, suivis d’un mois de rééducation. Nous avons ensuite modifié le bateau pour éviter de nouveaux risques : l’assise a été faite sur-mesure, avec ceinture de sécurité et amortisseurs. La bannette a également été améliorée avec des cales pieds et des filets conçus par des pêcheurs locaux pour éviter d’être projeté vers l’avant en cas de choc. Et quand le vent dépasse les 20 nœuds, je porte désormais un casque”.
Arnaud Boissières est un marin qui incarne la persévérance et la passion absolue de la mer. Surnommé ‘Cali’ par ses amis et ses fans, Arnaud n’est pas seulement un marin expérimenté, il est aussi quelqu’un d’une grande humilité qui respire la joie de vivre. Ces qualités font de lui un être d’exception très apprécié dans le milieu de la course au large. Il est le seul skipper à avoir bouclé quatre Vendée Globe consécutifs, qu’il a toujours abordés avec un parfait équilibre de ténacité et de sérénité, démontrant son grand respect pour la mer et pour le défi que représente cette course. C’est une légende de la voile française et il est prêt à boucler son cinquième tour du monde consécutif !

Lors du Vendée Globe 2020, pour sa première participation, Manuel avait franchi la ligne d’arrivée avec un vérin de quille cassé, au bout de 103 jours de mer ! Après avoir passé la première moitié de sa vie comme entrepreneur, il décide de réaliser son rêve et de se consacrer à la course au large. Il quitte alors sa Normandie natale pour s’installer aux Sables d’Olonne. En 2013 il rejoint le circuit Class40 et pendant quatre saisons il alterne les participations à la Transat Jacques Vabre et à la Québec / Saint Malo, avant de rejoindre la classe IMOCA en 2017. Pour préparer son second Vendée Globe, il a participé à toutes les grandes courses du circuit : Transat Jacques Vabre, Route du Rhum, Retour à la Base, New York – Vendée, cumulant suffisamment de milles (19825) pour atteindre le haut des qualifications des bateaux anciens et valider sa participation pour l’édition 2024.

Ancien champion de judo et patron de pub, Antoine a déjà répondu à l’appel de l’océan en participant à la Minitransat 2001. Après une longue pause où il s’est consacré à la famille, il s’est remis à la voile en 2017 et il y a trois ans, il a acheté l’un des plus vieux IMOCA encore sur l’eau, un plan Owen Clarke de 2005. Un défi en soi !

Pour Louis Duc, il n’y a pas de problème, il n’y a que des solutions ; comme celle qu’il a trouvé lors de la Mini Transat où après avoir démâté, il avait réussi à remettre son mât seul au milieu de l’Atlantique sur un petit voilier de 6.50 mètres ! Louis ne manque pas d’idées, et il est aussi audacieux en mer qu’à terre car il fut le premier à construire un Class 40 avec une étrave de type “scow”, c’est à dire avec une forme arrondie à l’avant, et un mât à une seule barre de flèche. Il aime aussi les défis. Il n’a ainsi pas hésité à racheter et à reconstruire le vieux PRB 3 abandonné de 2007 pour prendre le départ de son premier Vendée.

Arnaud Boissières - La Mie Câline- who dismasted, arrived Wednesday (12/2) evening in Le Marin, Martinique. "Of course, the channel in Le Marin will not be the one in Les Sables-d'Olonne, but we are moving forward, one way or another. What I am going through right now is a truly extraordinary experience. Humanly incredible, spiritually almost improbable. Also, I have to say that the ocean is teaching me so many things. Congratulations to all those who are coming, they have accomplished an incredible feat!

Arnaud Boissières’ the skipper of La Mie Câline, informed his technical team that he had dismasted this Thursday. Currently 27th in the race he is more than 2,500 miles from the finish, at the longitude of Cape Verde in a group of five skippers. Arnaud explained that he had secured his boat.
The Les Sables d’Olonne based Boissières is the only skipper to have finished four Vendée Globe races in a row, having taken part in every edition since 2008. Nicknamed ‘Cali’, born in Bordeaux, Arnaud Boissières was in the group expected to finish around the 8th to 9th February.
After an initial moment of despondency and despair, Arnaud did not lose heart and, after securing the boat, came up with an alternative way of sailing with a kitesurf sail (click the link below!)

Ending his voyage around the world on 17th January at 01:27:37 (local time), Sébastien Simon has crossed the finish line of this tenth edition of the Vendée Globe, taking third place overall, with a lead of over 2000 nm over his pursuers. This marks a truly extraordinary achievement for the solo French sailor and SLAM ambassador, who distinguished himself in such a uniquely challenging competition alongside a record number of 40 participants taking part, 6 of whom have been forced to retire so far.
Vendée Globe leader Charlie Dalin(MACIF Santé Prévoyance) is well into the final 24 hours of his Vendée Globe, knowing now that the victory he so narrowly missed four years ago will be his early tomorrow, Tuesday morning if everything goes to plan. At 0600hrs UTC this morning his lead over perennial rival Yoann Richomme (PAPREC ARKÉA) is some 190 miles with just over 200 miles to sail. He will very soon pass the moment when he is closer to the finish than Richomme is to him. Dalin is still headed north of the ideal layline into Les Sables d’Olonne and the zone of lighter winds close to the French coast still lies in wait. Seb Simon follows.

Like an over excited youngster on Christmas morning, Seb Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) had to wait until after breakfast time before he could pass Cape Horn for his first time. But for all that some patience was required of the skipper from Les Sables d’Olonne, he was rewarded by what might be described as ‘brochure conditions’, winds gusting to 47kts and a fierce, dark slate grey sea. Much as he would have liked to have been granted a picture-postcard passage such as was afforded the two leaders late on Monday night and into Tuesday morning, Simon passed more than 30 miles off, seeking to avoid the lee of the high, bluff land and to find a more consistent breeze and some searoom.
Seb Simon passed at 0921hrs UTC this morning, 1 day 9 hours after leader Richomme. Full of the joys of exiting the Pacific, Simon exclaimed,"Thank you Pacific, ciao Big South and long live the Atlantic. That is a big thing done", added the skipper of Groupe Dubreuil who, like the two up in front of him has slowed to boat speeds in single figures.
"I passed with more than 40 knots of wind and rough seas, which didn't stop it from being the best Christmas present!
