ABOUT US

When roots steer course and destination.

Our story begins in Genoa, the same city that gave birth to some of the most famous navigators in history. Explorers such as Christopher Columbus and Giacomo Doria, names that contributed to redefining the known world.

Genoa is our port, the starting point from which we look beyond horizon with genuine curiosity, striving to discover what lies ahead, what our next adventure will be. The Mediterranean is our sea. It has united people and gifted us with the precious wealth of diversity. A singular mix of cultures, values and flavours that constantly inspires us and teaches us to be welcoming, curious, creative.

These are our roots and they have set our course for the future. Every day, we challenge the status quo to create something unique, something distinctive, combining visionary innovation with sophisticated and conscious design.

BEYOND HORIZON

SLAM
SLAM SLAM

In these 45 years, we have covered many nautical miles, always alongside those sailors who have redefined the limits of their sports.

We have experienced thrilling glides, important achievements and unforgettable adventures. A story marked by innovative designs and products tailored to sailors' specific needs when competing in the most prestigious events, including the Olympics, the America’s Cup and Round-The-World Races, but also for their day-to-day life.

TIMELINE

1979 - 1988

On 19th December 1979, SLAM is founded by sailors, for sailors. The first garment produced is the Mickey Bear, a jacket made using Thermal fleece, a cutting-edge material for its time. And the first victories also begin to arrive with two bronze medals at the Moscow and Los Angeles Olympics, won by Gorla and Peraboni in the Star class. 1985 also sees the birth of the Slam Classic, a jacket designed for the sea that landed in the city.

MAKING

THE

DIFFERENCE

DROP BY DROP

We often hear that actions aimed at sustainability are like drops in the ocean, meaning they have little to no effect. We could not disagree more. Just as the ocean is itself made up of drops of water, all big changes are made possible by the sum of small actions.

OUR ACTIONS

Taking responsibility for the garments we produce is no longer a choice, it is a duty. We take this challenge seriously, knowing we are only at the beginning of our journey.

As a technical sailing brand, our first goal is tocreate products that uphold their performance and technical qualities for along time, because durability is the first ingredient of sustainability. On the production side, our actions depend to a large extent on innovations using the materials and technologies at our disposal. This means that we need to make conscious decisions in selecting suppliers who meet meticulous standards in their production process and with regards to their workers. When designing products, we need to conceive of effective solutions that implement eco-design principles using recycled raw materials while also thinking about facilitating post-use recycling. 32% of out clothing collection is made from natural fibres and the remaining 68% from synthetic fibres such as nylon and polyester.

Using cotton sourced from organic crops

90% of our t-shirts, polo shirts and sweatshirts are made using cotton sourced from organic crops that reduce environmental impact and the need for energy resources. Organic cotton is grown using environmentally friendly methods while organic production systems are used to fertilise the soil, thus eliminating the use of harmful pesticides and chemical fertilisers that remain in the environment and in fibres that even after washing still pollute water sources. The use of organic cotton also reduces the risk of allergies and skin reactions.

Fabrics from recycled raw materials

68% of our technical collection is made primarily of recycled polyester.

Recycling means saving raw materials, energy and water while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Today, it is possible to obtain state-of-the-art textile fibres using both production waste and post consumer waste. A complex chemical and mechanical process is used to transform plastic bottles, fishing nets and industrial production waste into polyester flakes, which are then melted into granules and extruded into yarn. Research has shown that the production of fibres from post-consumer recycled waste requires 75% less water and 47% less energy. It also produces 55% fewer emissions than fibres produced from the original petroleum-based raw material.

SLAM

TEAM

SLAM has always sailed alongside those who aim beyond the horizon and redefine their own limits.

Each athlete and partner in our family shares more than just a passion for the sea; they share a commitment to excellence, innovation, and authenticity. Together, we have experienced and will continue to experience thrilling adventures among the spray and wind. Sea and sport tales, written amidst the waves, that inspire our dreams, hold our breath, excite us and sadden us, sometimes. All shaped by a single and extraordinary element: the sea. Beautiful yet capricious, making each cruise unpredictable and therefore unique.
